USPGA Episode III - The Runts Rained Off... Damp Monster is now less scary

As I write the fourth round is getting under way but I thought for continuity's sake I would give a recap of the third round anyhow. Ben Curtis, who has been talking his chances up, took 68 to give himself a one shot cushion going into the final round.

The third round was yesterday halted due to thunderstorms with torrential rain. As a result, When the players returned this morning to complete their third rounds, the course was a slightly tamer beast - the runts teeth had lost it's edge. The monster is now playing 2 shots easier than it was in the first two days; the USPGA will be hoping some good scoring may reduce the damage to it's reputation which has been battered with widespread claims the course is unfairly set up. Someone from the pack could rip it up in the final round, an open styles Ian Poulter surge is on the cards...

JB Holmes carded a par round to lie second with the ever consistent Henrik Stenson, who has floated up the leaderboard with his 68. Andres Romero hit the round of the day yesterday, a course record 65, to get right in the thick of things at 2 over, and with him, Sergio and Padraig Harrington all kicking around the top of the leaderboard, we could see a replay of their three way tussle at Carnoustie two years ago...

Latest from the course - 8.00pm GMT

Sergio has just hit Eagle on the second in his fourth Round, my tip for the week coming through. Should have had more on him!!! Harrington pars the first lying third, Big Phil is also 3 under for his round so far, can he come through and silence his doubters? After three birdies for Poulter to get back in it, he's had three straight bogeys (oh dear), while JB has had a triple bogey on the first, it's all happening, the excitement the organisers were praying for has finally arrived, should be a cracker.
